Best Little Radio Station on Planet Earth

For those of us lucky enough to live in the Tampa Bay area and are in the know, 88.5 WMNF is the pulse for everything non commercial here. If you're not in the know, click the link and start streaming live radio and let the sounds of community diversity fill your ears. The station was started by a handful of volunteers in 1979 by going door to door and collecting donations. They've come a long way since then, with the station now pumping out 70,000 watts to communities that surround the Bay area and a new "green"station building that was built with $1,000,000 of listener donated money. The music is diverse with shows lasting between 2-3 hours where you can hear all styles from reggae, salsa, americana, indie, trance, downbeat, hip hop, jamband, blues, jazz and good old rock and roll. And the public affairs shows from 10am-2pm every weekday are the answer to the mainstream ,narrow-mindedness of today's conglomerate media. Don't be shy, try something different >click here<.
Some of my favorite shows are Explorations by Michio Kaku - Tue @ 11am , The Freak Show - Tue @ 7pm(60's 70's rock and roll with 1 hour of live music) and In the Groove - Tue @9pm, and the blues show everyday between 2-4pm. One of the best aspects of this station is the commitment to bringing great live acts to the area. For example, a few weeks ago I was taken to see Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings at Skippers Smokehouse as a birthday present. If any of you were there you know how good that show was; if not, check them out soon if you can. So if you're tired of hearing the same 20 songs on the radio are up for a little variety to spice up your life, check out this station.

Where you been at? Where you going?

 St. Petersburg, FL:
Sunshine, boating, golfing, beaches, fine dining establishments, museums, live music, growing singles/club scene, art galleries; yes this is paradise. But sometimes there is a need to get away from paradise - for extended periods of time and sometimes for good. If any of you have ever visited, lived, or has known anyone who has been here realizes this is a special place. But every now and then  there is a need to flex the muscles and move a little. The thing is, if you're like me, sometimes you keep going.
So where would you go and what would you do if you ever decided to get out for a little while? What to do when you're stuck here in paradise?
I love to get out the map and just pick somewhere I've never been before. Most of the time this revolves around the live music scene or camping/hiking for me. My girl and I are mad about live music and nature and we'll travel just about anywhere our wallets will take us if the music, timing and place is right. Having enough money to travel comfortably has become a necessity for me. In the past all I needed was a backpack, harmonica, a few dollars, a change of clothes and I was gone. Things are a little different now or I'm just older, I can't really tell which it is. Anyway, money is good for travel. The more money you have the farther away you can get from our paradise and visit someone else's.
Whenever I think about traveling I tend to think of foreign countries to visit and then my mind wanders and I think about what it might be like to live abroad. And when I've gotten that far I go here.
This site provides so much information about making a huge move - namely, out of the country- I'll be surprised if you're not packing by the next post or at least dreaming of going somewhere, even if it's St. Pete. Make sure and check back for tips on traveling, things to do in St. Pete/ Tampa Bay and general life in the 'Burg. That's it for now. Until next time enjoy this video of the only cheesy wedding chapel on the waters of Tampa Bay.
